Work: Sr. Project Manager, Center for Technology and Training at MTU
Community: A few miles from Lake Linden
Total 2016 NBC miles: 5,000
A: I love to bike and it is a fun way to track the miles I pedal and have friendly competitions.
Q: Has the National Bike Challenge changed when and where you ride your bike?
A: Yes, NBC has helped me realize what I am capable of. Before the challenge, I would have never dreamed I could pedal that many miles in a season. I started with 1 -2 days a week commuting to work and quickly escalated into a daily commute, some days even in the rain!
Q: What do you like about bike riding in the area?
A: We live in a beautiful area, surrounded by lakes and forest, traveling by bike allows a person to enjoy this beauty much more than traveling by car.
Q: What would you say to others who are thinking of joining the National Bike Challenge?
A: I would highly recommend joining the NBC. Biking is such an enjoyable form of exercise anyway, but being a part of a competition will encourage you to challenge yourself and others. Ride, log your miles and monitor your status often - soon you will be pedaling more than you ever thought possible!
Q: Can you share a story from one of your rides during the Challenge?
A: My most memorable ride of the season is the MTU Cycle Club Fall Color Tour in September. I have participated two years in a row now and I always have a great time. It also feels great to accomplish a 120 mile ride.
